France Income &
UK Tax

If you have income, property, investments or a pension in France, you may need to declare it to HMRC – even if you've already paid tax in France.

This Applies To You If...

You own property in France

You receive rental income from France

You have investments or bank accounts in France

You receive dividends or interest

You receive a French pension or retirement income

You have moved between France and the UK

Why UK Tax May Still Apply

UK tax residents must declare their worldwide income and gains to HMRC. The UK-France Double Taxation Convention allows relief where French tax has been paid and prevents double taxation.

Common French Income Types and How They're Treated

Income Type UK Tax Treatment (Summary)
French employment income Taxable in the UK; credit for French tax paid
French pensions Taxable in the UK; treatment depends on pension type

French interest & dividends Taxable in the UK; credit for French withholding tax
